NHAI mandated Network survey vehicle(NSV) to survey the road conditions at the time of completion of the project and every six months thereafter to enhance the quality of roads in India. NSV, a data collecting vehicle uses the latest survey techniques and technologies for the measurement of distresses in the road surface.
NHAI one of the implementing agencies of MoRTH developed Road Asset Management System (RAMS) for managing and maintaining the entire national highways in India through a systematic, cyclic and life cycle analysis. The broad objective of the RAMS is to store road asset information in digital format, analyse these information using different software modules and then provide tangible outputs which can be utilized for planning, maintenance, upgradation, renewal and considering scientific based decisions for optimal utilisation of available budgets.
The data collected in the NSV will be analysed in the RAMS to assess the condition of the road and prompt operators / NHAI officials to take corrective steps to bring the road condition to the desired level. NHAI also states that the provision has also been included as a part of the standard bidding document of consultancy services.
